Okay. The first of 3 posts today. Let’s do this!
Ladder 49. The story of a heroic firefighter who, in the attempt to save a man’s life, gets trapped in a burning building and reflects upon his life as his colleagues attempt to save him.
Now, I had never heard of this film. And even more than that, this is not my kind of film in the slightest. I’m more interested in love stories or fantasy stuff, so the idea of watching firefighter put me off immediately.
I was wrong.
This film was so beautiful. It really was. I mean, I was actually touched. I know a lot of people say that films like this do touch them, and quite often I think it’s a load of rubbish. I know that firefighters do a lot to save people’s life. That’s common knowledge. I just didn’t think it needed to have a film made about it, because I like to watch things that aren’t real. That’s just me. But to watch this, and know that this could actually happen…wow…just wow.
Joaquin Phoenix…the main man…well, I tell you what. I did fall a little bit in love with him. And I don’t usually fall for firefighters, let me tell you! His performance was outstanding. He loved what he was doing, and did it because he could save lives. He wasn’t arrogant. He was humble. He was true. He. Was. Amazing.
And John Travolta. Well, I’ve seen him in Grease, Look Who’s Talking and Wild Hogs before this. I’ve never thought he was as good in those as he is in this. Truly. I am so impressed with this film.
The only thing I probably didn’t like about the film is that they killed off my favourite character. But then again, when does anyone like it when that happens? Luckily I didn’t stop watching, like my experience with Lost after Charlie died. I kept at it. And I’m so glad I did, because it truly was an inspirational film.
So. Yeah. I’m gonna sign off for this film. Got another 2 to review! But I would highly recommend this film if you like heartfelt movies. You won’t regret it.
