So, today was a treat. I got to go and sit in a real life cinema! Yes, not often to I do that. I also got to see a film in 3D. Must say, wasn’t overly excited about that, but I did it anyway. Sad thing is, I’m going to need 2 root canals. Yeah, always a dark side. Anyway, let’s get going.
Wrath of the Titans. A sequel to Clash of the Titans (the remake), the story follows Perseus, son of Zeus, as he fights to prevent the titan Kronos from being released into the world.
Before I start, I will say that a lot of people did not like this film. It got 25% on Rotten Tomatoes. Not only that, but my family (that I went to see the film with) are adamant that I will never have the option to choose the film we go to see in the cinema ever again. They truly hated this film, as do many of the people out there.
But screw all you haters. I love this film.
Yes, okay, it has some flaws. The actor who played Ares was abysmal. He really was. It was quite painful to watch. Also, the random romantic element near the end threw me slightly. It was really unnecessary.
But other than that, I really liked it.
I thought the visuals were amazing. I enjoyed looking at the screen. And after my eyes finally adjusted to the 3D parts of the film, I felt that helped me enjoy it that bit more. I was aware that this might be the case after reading Filmophilia’s review of the film, and they are exactly right. I’m not fully converted to 3D, but I’m certainly on my way.
I’m a fan of Greek Mythology. This you already know. So you know, pretty much any storyline to do with it I tend to enjoy. This one was just as enjoyable to me. Granted, I didn’t expect a few things to happen (won’t spoil those for you) but I thought it was a massive improvement on Clash.
And there was comic relief. And I must say, I did love the comic relief. Hephaestus and Agenor were fantastic characters. Some may argue that they were over the top, but you know what? I don’t give a toss. I really enjoyed them, particularly Hephaestus. He tickled my funny bone in all the right ways. And you know the best part? He had the owl! You know? The owl from the original film that they tossed out in the remake of Clash of the Titans. He returned! And it made me happy. I actually clapped with glee in the middle of a dark cinema. I felt slightly silly afterward, but meh. It was needed.
All the Gods (bar Ares) were epic too. I loved each and every one of them. The three brothers (Zeus by Liam Neeson, Hades by Ralph Fiennes and Poseidon by Danny Huston) are pretty damn cool. It’s a shame Ares wasn’t at all good. He really was bad. The God of War should be epic and amazing and all the violently brilliant things that this man just wasn’t. Sigh. Never mind. I’ll forgive it.
And Kronos. Oh. My. Freaking. Life. That titan is so amazing. To my brother, however, he was just, and I quote ‘a groaning flame-man’. But you know what? Screw you, lil bro! I love him. He was beautiful. Oh, and the noises he made. They sent shivers down my spine. It reminded me of the beautiful Balrog from The Lord of the Rings that I love so much. Och. I love him. I really do…
And on that note, I should probably stop writing. I could go on about the things that I love about it, but Kronos really was my favourite thing. The labyrinth was ace, the cyclopses…oh there’s just so much! But no. I shall end it here. I don’t care how many people tell me that this film was a bad film. My brother can go on and on at me for the rest of my life. But I will still say that this is a good film and that I enjoyed it. So I personally say watch it. But you know. What do I know?
Great post, and thanks for the shout-out on our review! I so agree with you on Ares, though. He was bad. Bad bad bad.
No problem! Was my pleasure!
Yeah. He was truly awful.
And thank you so much! Love your stuff, and hope you keep reading!
