Thanks again for choosing my film for the day! It makes my life so much easier. Especially after your place of work closes down…Regardless, let’s head on over to Day 40 then.

Dogma. This follows the story of Bethany, an abortion clinic worker that is told by the voice of God that she needs to stop two fallen angels from getting back into heaven.

This film was definitely not what I expected. From the title, I expected some kind of gory war film. From what my housemate told me, I expected quite a serious film.

None of these assumptions were right.

This film is absolutely hilarious, literally from the word go. The disclaimers at the beginning were brilliant and set the mood perfectly. It’s not quite slapstick, but it’s the kind of humour that I adore. It really cheered me up after a long shift at work.

I would go through each character individually, but that would take forever because I liked nearly all of them. So I’ll just pick out three I liked the most.

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. They practically count as one in this film, so I’ll do them together. They were fantastic. It’s not often that I see films with these two in, apart from Good Will Hunting. They should work together more often. They make a good team. Particularly the scene on the bus, where Damon was trying to work out if the couple in front were adulterers. It was brilliant. I loved it. Good team, boys.

Chris Rock. This guy is a little hit and miss with me. I don’t like his stand-up, but his movies aren’t too bad. And his character Rufus was genius. The thirteenth apostle, left out for being a black man. Oh dear, that could offend so many people in so many different ways. I think this man’s expressions are what made me laugh so much. I can’t explain why I like his expressions, I just do. He’s funny. End of.

And my final character…but of course, the wonderful Alan Rickman. He was truly the icing on the cake for me. I knew this man was a good actor. I’ve seen Harry Potter, Love Actually and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. He rocked in those films. But this one is easily my favourite of his. No doubt about it. His entrance is probably the most epic entrance to a film ever. And he is just so amazing at sarcasm. I could listen to his sarcastic ways for ever. And, let’s be honest, he looks pretty good with that hairstyle. Yep. He does. Don’t deny it.

Moving on to the things I liked less, I wasn’t so keen on the main girl, Bethany. Can’t tell you why, she just irritated me a little. She wasn’t really that funny, although I think at times she was supposed to be. It just felt a little bit forced to me. Meh. Not keen. Not keen at all.

And then there was God himself. Or rather, HERself. Not that that bothered me at all. It’s just…how she was…She was a little…ditzy. I don’t know. It just felt a little bit pointless. Her epic roar though was pretty badass. But that was about it really. Sorry God.

I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m a little bit short on what I have to say. I’m kinda tired, and stressed, and all kinds of stupid stuff so my words aren’t as good as I want them to be. But do not think for a second that you shouldn’t watch this film. It’s awesome. And there is so much I haven’t talked about that you need to know about, but you should see for yourself. So go on. Go watch this film. Unless you’re religious. Then maybe you should pass…
